MARYLAND BUSINESS OWNERS TO MEET WITH REP. HOYER TO DISCUSS CONCERNS OVER NLRB ACTIONS
Maryland-area business owners and representatives will meet with House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD-5) to discuss the growth of small businesses in Southern Maryland and the challenges they face as the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) considers expanding the definition of a “joint employer”.
As reported this morning in Politico, House Minority Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer will meet today with business owners in an event organized by the Coalition to Save Local Businesses, the lobbying group established to fend off a new joint employer standard.
The event comes as franchised businesses prepare for the NLRB’s forthcoming decision in Browning-Ferris, which is likely to result in a broader standard, potentially making corporations answerable to union organizing at — and labor law violations committed by — subcontractors and franchisees.
The roundtable is one example of the group’s “efforts during this August work period to engage congressional Democrats and educate them on the widespread impact” of a new joint employer standard.
