CLSB Hails House “Swift & Steady Rebuke” Of Biden Joint Employer Veto

Biden’s action imperils 32 million small businesses, defies bipartisan majorities in Congress

WASHINGTON – After an attempted override of President Joe Biden’s veto of H.J. Res. 98 fell short in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Coalition to Save Local Businesses released the following statement:

“We are grateful to the bipartisan group of House members who once again stood up for franchising against the NLRB’s rulemaking,” said Michael Layman, senior advisor to the Coalition to Save Local Business. “Three times Congress has voted to nix this policy. The president’s decision to veto the repeal of the expanded joint employer rule during National Small Business Week shows where his support lies, but we greatly appreciate the swift and steady rebuke by the House to protect local franchises. While it’s unfortunate the veto override fell short, we will stand with our congressional champions who fought for franchising, and we won’t forget those lawmakers who turned their back on local franchises when the stakes were highest.”

The U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate both voted with bipartisan majorities to overturn the NLRB’s joint employer rule, reflecting the majority of Americans opposed to intrusive and burdensome regulations that threaten their jobs. In addition, Biden’s veto followed a petition from over 5,300 small business stakeholders from all 50 states urging the president to protect their businesses and sign the legislation.

More than 100 national and local organizations have joined CSLB to fight for small businesses and workers across the nation who stand to be harmed by the new joint employer rule. Additionally, organizations in Alaska, Arizona, California, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, and North Dakota also sent similar letters in support of the resolutions to their state congressional delegations.
